Even though this will probably make the experience slightly more bearable, that’s not something to be praised in the grand scheme of things, as any game can be made better if you add your friends into the mix.

This is all to say that Phantom Abyss falls somewhat short on achieving the goal of offering a challenging parkour adventure in a roguelite package. The whip and phantom gameplay involving other players’ trial and error are unique, but its clunkiness, difficulty, and disparate progression are worth a pause.

My favorite is the lighning whip, for the sames reasons than SnakesTGK, plus the fact it reduce the time you need to complete a run.

Any players who have attempted to clear a temple before you will appear as a phantom in your run. You can use this to get an idea of where they went, what they did.

Phantom Abyss is an awesome roguelike platformer that Phantom Abyss Speedrun has an addicting gameplay loop. The procedurally generated temples and different modes keep the platforming fresh, while the controls and whip make the jumping, sliding, dashing, and whipping much more fun.

With the Ice Whip, however, so long as you have the Icy Feet curse still enabled, you can use the momentum of your slide to boost your horizontal distance. Slide, let go of all keys and then quickly crouch and jump while you still have momentum.

There’s also a dynamic arsenal of whips to unlock, a mysterious new area called The Rift, and permanent upgrades to help you delve deeper into the darkness.

With the Ice Whip, however, you can cover absurd amounts of distance very quickly, and I would bump it up a tier or two if you choose to run with said whip.

The game has a lot of potential, had a lot during the beta as well, in both versions of the game I found myself frustrated but at least in the beta I was able to complete the game fully and could avoid traps.

It still looks great, with just a little bit of that shimmering. It's a great way to play and get the full experience without draining your Deck.

I’m confident that additional polish and content are coming down the pipeline, but I need more from the current state of the game.
